Peru and Venezuela issued a joint communique on July 24 launching a gradual process to fully restore bilateral relations. They agreed to first restore consular relations to ensure citizens residing in each country receive consular protection and services. On July 30, 2024 Peru refused to recognize the Venezuelan presidential election results, after which Venezuela severed diplomatic ties with Peru.
